Community safety in Carnegie has received a boost with new security lighting and CCTV cameras now operating in the popular shopping and dining precinct.
The installation of lighting and CCTV cameras delivers on an election commitment by the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, Federal Member for Higgins.
“Everyone should feel safe while enjoying all the wonderful things that Carnegie has to offer”, Ms O’Dwyer said.
“New lighting will help make the pedestrian laneways between Koornang Road and the rear car parks safer after dark, enhancing the atmosphere of this vibrant community hub.
“Thanks must go to the Glen Eira City Council and also to the Carnegie Main Street traders’ association. Their hard work helped to ensure that the $100,000 in funding was secured for this important project.”
CCTV cameras in the Carnegie Library forecourt will also help deter anti-social behaviour and will be an effective investigation tool for police should crime occur.
This commitment is funded by the Federal Government’s Safer Streets Program which helps local communities tackle crime.
Ms O’Dwyer has previously delivered CCTV cameras for Ashburton, Malvern, South Yarra and Prahran.
