Inaugural function for Parliamentary Friendship Group of Women in Science, Maths and Engineering tonight

The Parliamentary Friendship Group of Women in Science, Maths and Engineering is a non-partisan group jointly formed by Kelly O’Dwyer MP, Federal Member for Higgins, and Amanda Rishworth MP, Federal Member for Kingston.

 

The mission of the Group is to:

  • promote the role and achievement of women in the areas of science, maths and engineering with parliamentarians and the wider community;
  • encourage more women to consider careers in the areas of science, maths and engineering;
  • look at any barriers that may exist; and
  • connect women in science, maths and engineering with their local parliamentarians in order for them to better understand their respective roles.

 

The inaugural function for the Parliamentary Friendship Grup of Women in Science, Maths and Engineering will be held today in the Mural Hall.  The guest of honour will be Prof Elizabeth Blackburn AO FRS, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and Laureate of the L’Oréal-UNESCO Award.

 

The Hon. Tony Abbott MHR, Leader of the Opposition, and Senator the Hon. Chris Evans, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research will also speak.

 

The function commences at 5pm with speeches starting at 5:30pm.
