Kelly O`Dwyer MP nominates Higgins Redspots

Federal Member for Higgins, Kelly O`Dwyer MP, has nominated two traffic nightmares in the RACV/Leader Redspot survey on behalf of constituents.

Both are level crossings – the Kooyong Station level crossing on Glenferrie Road and the Burke Road level crossing near Malvern Road.

¨Level crossings are the bane of Higgins residents` existence,¨ Ms O`Dwyer said.

¨These are not the only two problem spots, but these are the ones that drive most people crazy. The traffic build-up at both locations, especially in peak times when trains are running frequently, is a source of endless frustration.

¨If you are driving a car, riding a bike or even sitting on a tram in peak hour, you can expect to add up to 20 minutes to your trip simply sitting at one of these level crossings.¨

Ms O`Dwyer said fixing traffic chaos around level crossings should be a priority of the State Government.
¨These level crossings are a State Government responsibility and I know my State colleague, Malvern MP Michael O`Brien, has been working hard to get the Brumby Labor Government to sit up and take notice,¨ she said.

¨Action is long overdue and traffic just gets worse and worse. The infrastructure at these level crossings has not kept pace with development in our area.

¨I encourage other residents to join me in nominating these Redspots through their Leader newspapers and send a strong message to the Brumby Government that we need action,¨ Ms O`Dwyer said.
