Local Anzac Centenary Grants

The Centenary of Anzac 2014 – 2018 is a time of great national significance for Australia.

In due recognition of the significance of the Centenary of Anzac, and to assist in local commemorations, the Coalition Government is allocating $125,000 for grants to local community organisations in each Federal Electorate.

I am grateful for the many applications received from schools, churches and local community groups for services, marches and memorials, that will enable Higgins residents to commemorate the First World War and honour the servicemen and servicewomen who fought for Australia and the freedoms we continue to enjoy today.

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs has approved funding to the following community groups in the Higgins Electorate:

  • Villa Maria Society for a Commemorative stone in the Prahran Villa Maria Rose Garden
  • St John’s Anglican Church for a series of public events to mark anniversaries over the course of the First World War
  • East Malvern RSL branch for the restoration of their Honour Boards to commemorate soldiers from the First World War
  • Solway Primary School  for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • Yarra Trams for the installation of a memorial stone at the Malvern Depot to remember the 12 soldiers of the Depot who sadly died fighting during the First World War
  • Toorak RSL for the restoration of photographic memorabilia of soldiers from the First World War
  • Toorak RSL for the restoration of the St John’s War Memorial on the corner of Toorak Road and Orrong Road
  • Prahran RSL for the restoration and relocation of the Honour Board previously housed at the former Hawkskburn State School
  • The King David School for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone.
  • St Michael’s Primary School in Ashburton for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • St George’s Anglican Church in Malvern to restore a copy of the historic painting ‘The Great Sacrifice’
  • Armadale Primary School to help create an Anzac Spirit Mural
  • St Cecilia’s Primary School in Glen Iris to create an Anzac Centenary Memorial with flagpoles
  • Stonnington City Council for the upgrade and restoration of the First World War Memorial in Victoria Gardens in Prahran
  • Murrumbeena Primary School for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • Glen Huntly Primary School for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • Ashburton Primary School for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • Malvern Valley Primary School for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • De La Salle College in Malvern to create a public memorial and an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • Oakleigh Grammar School for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Memorial Stone
  • St Kevin’s College in Toorak for the installation of an Anzac Centenary Granite Memorial
  • Melbourne High School for the production of a digital archive memorial
  • South Yarra Primary School for the restoration of the Lytch Gate Memorial
  • Stonnington City Council to support the Higgins Stonnington Anzac Centenary March and Service.
